The primary level science syllabus is an important part of the curriculum. It encompasses a wide range of topics and is designed to introduce children to the basics of science.
Children can learn and use scientific principles and skills to gain a better knowledge of themselves and the natural world around them through the Primary Science curriculum.
Diversity, Cycles, Systems, Interactions, and Energy are five broad core ideas that are organized and taught in the Primary Science curriculum. The curriculum is further divided into two learning blocks:
Lower block (Primary Three and Primary Four)
Upper block (Primary Five and Primary Six)
Lower block (Primary Three and Primary Four)
Themes
Topics
Diversity
Diversity of living and non-living things (General characteristics and classification) Diversity of materials Your child will learn that there is a great variety of living and non-living things in the world and we classify the living and non-living things to better understand the world in which we live in.
Cycles
Cycles in plants and animals (Life Cycles) Cycles in matter and water (Matter) Your child will learn that there are repeated patterns of change in nature such as life cycles of living things. He/she will also learn about the three states of matter — solid, liquid and gas.
Systems
Plant system (Plant parts and functions) Human system (Digestive system) Your child will learn that a system is awhole consisting of parts that work together to perform a function. He/she will learn about the parts and function of the plants and human digestive system.
Interactions
Interaction of forces (Magnets) Your child will learn about the properties of magnets and how the interaction of magnets is used in everyday life.
Energy
Energy forms and uses (Light and heat) Your child will learn about the importance and uses of light and heat energy.
Upper block (Primary Five and Primary Six)

Topics
Cycles
Cycles in plants and animals (Reproduction) Cycles in matter and water (Water) Your child will learn about the importance for living things to reproduce and will be introduced to the processes of reproduction in flowering plants and humans. He/she will also learn how water changes its states and the processes involved in a water cycle.
Systems
Plant system (Respiratory and circulatory systems) Human system (Respiratory and circulatory systems) Cell system* Electrical system Your child will learn about the parts and functions of the respiratory and circulatory systems in plants and human; plant and animal cells; and electrical system.
Interactions
Interaction of forces (Frictional force, gravitational force, force in springs*) Interaction within the environment Your child will learn about the different forms of forces. He/she will also learn about the interactions that happen between organisms and the environment as well as the importance for Man to be responsible for their actions on the environment.
Energy
Energy forms and uses (Photosynthesis) Energy conversion* Your child will learn that all living things obtain energy through photosynthesis directly or indirectly for life processes. He/she will also learn that energy makes changes around them possible.
