  • Topics covered include work done by a force, the concept of power, and the efficiency of engines, laws of conservation of energy (Laws of thermodynamics), and the concept of energy transfer and storage.

Course Curriculum

Energy Stores and Transfers – Explore different energy stores (e.g., kinetic, potential) and how energy transfers occur through various mechanisms like mechanical forces, electricity, heating, and waves. For example, how a moving car converts fuel (chemical energy) into kinetic energy as it travels. Also learn the principle of the conservation of energy, which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only change forms.
Work, Power, and Efficiency – Learn concepts of work done, power, and efficiency. Apply the relationship between work done (force × distance) and power (energy transfer / time) in various contexts. For instance, calculate the work done when lifting an object against gravity or the power needed to perform a task. Efficiency is discussed in terms of energy transfer, to calculate it by dividing useful energy output by total energy input.
Energy Resources – Analyze different energy resources, including non-renewable ones like fossil fuels and nuclear fuels, as well as renewable sources like biofuel, wind, tides, hydropower, geothermal reservoirs, and solar energy. Evaluate efficiency, cost, and environmental impact.
